LONGVIEW, Texas (September 2026) – Interstate All Battery Center® of Longview and Keep Longview Beautiful will host the second annual Community Awareness Day on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 8 a.m. to noon in the Longview Mall parking lot at 3500 McCann Road. Store Manager Doug Roberts is leading the center’s efforts to coordinate the event and the participating vendors, giving area residents a place to recycle household materials and donate items to local organizations.

The event will accept batteries, paper and hard drives for shredding, tires, plastics, cardboard, oil and oil filters, scrap metal and books. Residents can also donate nonperishable food, coats and new pet supplies. Electronics, paint and household chemicals will not be accepted. The collection area will be on the HomeGoods side of the mall parking lot.

During last year’s event, organizers reported 5,440 pounds of shredded and recycled paper, 460 pounds of cardboard and more than 1,100 pounds of batteries. They also collected 573 books and 377 nonperishable food items for Longview Community Ministries.

“Unloading these kinds of items safely is tricky,” Roberts said following last year’s event. “And we are happy to do our part to help keep discarded materials from going into our landfills, or being left on our streets or in our alleyways. If we make it easy, then people may think twice before just tossing it in the trash.”

Later in October, Interstate All Battery Center of Longview and Golden Chick will sponsor a gathering to honor local first responders. The event is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the west-side parking lot at Longview Mall. First responders will be offered a complimentary lunch and raffle prizes as a thank-you for their service.

Interstate All Battery Center of Longview provides battery and portable power solutions for retail and commercial customers. The location also offers free car battery testing, installation, replacement and battery recycling.

Community partners for this year’s event include the City of Longview, Tyler Better Business Bureau, Republic Services, Southern Tire Mart, Environmental Oil Recovery, Hall Construction, D6, Longview Community Ministries, Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center and Longview Public Library. Chick-fil-A and Golden Chick will provide breakfast and lunch for event workers, while KYKX 105.7, Hospitality Health ER and JOTS Rentals will support the event through donations.
