FAQs

What Is an EFB Battery?

Enhanced flooded batteries (EFB) are car batteries designed to allow them to function in start-stop vehicles. They have a distinct chemical paste material and other internal features that equip them for high charge acceptance and a deep reserve capacity. That’s how EFBs withstand rapid recharging and discharging from vehicles with regenerative braking.

How Do You Charge an EFB Battery?

Enhanced flooded batteries use the same charging profile as flooded batteries. We recommend the Interstate Guardian 1 to recharge your EFB.

When charging a battery, ensure your charger is compatible with the battery’s design, be it AGM, EFB or flooded. Using an unsuitable charger could damage the battery or reduce its lifespan.

How Long Do Enhanced Flooded Batteries Last?
An EFB’s average lifespan truly depends on its usage and application. Be sure to only replace an EFB with an EFB. Enhanced flooded batteries will not work in a start-stop vehicle designed for an AGM battery.
What’s the Difference Between an EFB and an AGM Battery?

Enhanced flooded batteries are still wet-cell batteries, despite their deep cycle capacity and comparably high charge acceptance. They still have free-flowing liquid inside.

AGM batteries, common in modern vehicles, have a distinct internal design with no free-flowing liquid. It’s all absorbed into fiberglass mats, making them well-suited to more strenuous applications. AGM batteries also require a special charger. EFBs do not. Learn more about the differences in this article.
