Jeep Battery Maintenance

Ensuring the well-being of your Jeep's car battery is vital for the overall health of your vehicle. Routine maintenance practices can boost its performance, but keep in mind that factors like location and driving habits influence the expected life of a battery (typically 3-5 years).

Don't get caught with a dead battery. If signs of weakness emerge, it might be time for a fresh battery. Consider warning signals like dimming lights, slow engine cranking or an illuminated battery warning light on your dashboard.

Maintenance Tip

To ensure you get the most out of your Jeep's battery, check out these tips:

  • Regular Battery Maintenance: To prolong your Jeep's battery life, conduct tests every six months. Inspect your Jeep battery for corrosion build-up and check the connections for tightness every three months. Keep the battery cables, battery tray and post terminals clean.
  • Be Cautious of Accessories: Electrical accessories can put strain on your vehicle's battery. Things like heated seats, stereos, lights, backup cameras and navigation devices can increase your vehicle's electrical demands. Avoid running accessories for long periods of time with the engine turned off.
  • Drive Your Vehicle Often: To keep the battery charged, aim to drive your Jeep at highway speeds for at least 30 minutes once a week. This will help keep your battery functioning at ideal levels.
  • Extreme Temperatures: Be mindful of the climate that you live in. Extreme conditions, both hot and cold, can impact your battery’s lifespan. If you live in a hot climate with regular exposure to high temperatures, your battery might have a reduced lifespan. If you live in a colder climate, ensure you select a battery that has adequate cold cranking amps (CCA) to start reliably during the winter.

If you experience any battery issues, bring your Jeep to us for testing. If a replacement is needed, we’ll help you find a new battery.

AGM Batteries vs Non-AGM Batteries

Absorbed glass-mat (AGM) technology is a type of separator used in some lead-acid batteries that allows for a nonspillable design with a high level of vibration resistance and impact protection. Our premium AGM batteries are among our most popular batteries for their reliable starting power and faster recharging capabilities.

AGM batteries are ideal for vehicles with high-demand electrical and plug-in accessories, or that feature start-stop technology, both of which require a lot of battery power. Today's power hungry vehicles require a high-performance battery that can meet their high electrical demands.

Non-AGM batteries are standard batteries built for vehicles with minimal power demands. Like AGM batteries, they are also lead-acid batteries, but they do not feature the same nonspillable design technology.
