SLAs are the least expensive rechargeable battery. This makes them best suited for applications such applications as electric wheelchairs and golf carts. SLAs have the lowest self-discharge rate of any rechargeable battery, only about 5% per month and do not suffer from memory effect.

SLA batteries typically achieve a working lifetime of approximately 300 - 500 cycles, depending on the depth of cycling and the operating temperature.
